Hell's got nothing on this place

Being from Pasadena, CA I am fully familiar with temperatures at or near the century mark. For example, last week the thermometer rose steadily all week and I was able to cope even when it hit 100F. However, it does not usually last long, a day or two. I have been visiting my parents this week in middle CA and it has been well over 100F all week. I helped my father assemble a patio umbrella in the early afternoon and I felt as though I was in Kuwait City. I am a fair-skinned soul and I thought I would either collapse or belt my dad with a ratchet. The heat must be having an effect on me. Seattle is sounding really good right now.

Time has Flown and so have I

Yes it is true that I have not been blogging like a zealot, but I have been busy as can be and had many an experience worth posting about. I have ended the school year with my students on a positive note, and traveled to the far east in the meantime. High school commencement ceremonies are generally a damn waste of time, not that the diplomas aren't important, they are. But, the event itself is painfully boring. I would much rather be beaten about the head with a baseball bat than attend, but as a member of the distinguished faculty I must show up. Oh well, it must be I suppose, but the audience does not listen to a thing said from the dais until their graduate's name is called and then its air horns and screeching and placards and silly string, etc.

Upon completing graduation obligations at 5;30pm, it was off to the airport by 10;00pm to fly to Korea and subsequently Japan for an eleven day trip with fifteen high school students (a music group) and four chaperones plus myself. While the flight was long, the humidity in both countries high and the bitching quotient by students and chaperones alike (excluding me) through the roof, it was a marvelous trip. Both countries were lovely and the people gracios and kind. My only real observation is this: Fat America is a reality! My small band of twenty one contained more pounds of and inches of flab than a slaughter house. Unbelieveable!! I had some real cattle on this trip and they whined like stuck pigs also (forgive all the animal metaphors.)

In spite of my negativity, I do love my students and had a great time with them.

It's been a long time

I do realize that time has passed since I last posted, but life does not slow down. That is to say that I have been occupied with other things.
My beloved sister is in point of fact a burr under my saddle in terms of urging me to blog daily. My rigorous schedule does not allow me the luxury.
She, my lovely niece, and I will be heading to Korea and Japan very soon. I look forward to our Asian adventure.
When school is out, I will have more time to write something actually worth reading. My attempts thus far have fallen short of my abilities and expectations, but I will soon unveil my formidable blogging talents.

Tone Deaf and Unaware

It has come to my attention that many in this life are completely clueless as to what it means to function properly here on the earth. The vast majority could not find a coherent sentence with both hands and a flashlight. Music is the only solace, only the best of which as I see it will do. Moreover, driving well is in steep decline in this debased society. Think on these things.

The Slog of Spring

As I do the Lord's work in the devil's playground, I am reminded that teens are people too. Knuckleheads to be sure, but most adults can be schmucks now and then, including myself (seldom though). "Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast" is not an altogether true statement, but sometimes it is.

When one is busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger, it is important to keep the goal in sight, and never forget to enjoy the process. Finally, why is it that so many colleagues in my field are as dense as a Christmas fruitcake? Perhaps I'll never know.

Musical Musing

I've noticed lately that many artists who've made it big in the music world, especially "pop", really do SUCK! Many have less talent than a retarded clam, no offense to the clams out there.
